Once upon a time, in the wild days of 2020, when sourdough bread ruled the kitchen and COVID tests were scratching brains left and right, Michael and Kendra's story began. They, like many, delved into the enigmatic world of dating apps. Kendra, in her newfound free time after losing her job, treated the whole endeavor like a rigorous interview process, with Michael as the unwitting candidate. Kendra was instantly attracted to Michael's endearing smile and love for the outdoors. Their first in-person encounter was a leisurely stroll around Sloan's Lake in Denver, where Kendra poured out her heart about her love for Hamilton and her perpetual struggle with dry eyes, which often made her look like she was weeping through life. Somehow, Michael found her charming despite her oversharing tendencies.
Their journey together unfolded with culinary escapades across Denver. They frequented Tacos and Margaritas (mainly for their 90's inspired local band), became regulars at Big Mac and Little Lu's for seafood pasta (not Big Mac) binges, and discovered hidden gems like Suvipa. They made it a tradition to catch Colorado Rockies games whenever the San Diego Padres were in town. They tackled ski slopes in Breckenridge, where Kendra left Michael in the dust on the black diamond runs. Camping trips with their beloved dog Ace in Wyoming provided moments of tranquility, and scaling sand dunes in Colorado ended with them perched atop a precarious castle (Bishop's Castle, if you're in the know).
Their travel adventures took them to Mexico for unexpected chess showdowns and excessive beachside indulgence, with detours to marvel at one of the seven wonders of the world: Chichen Itza. Hawaii's Napali Coast left them breathless, as did the unexpected whale-watching experience they had. Oregon's wine country finally converted Michael into a wine aficionado, much to Kendra's delight. They took Vegas trips with friends, which were more about food and spectacles than high-stakes gambling, and California weddings became cherished occasions to celebrate love and life.
In 2022, they merged their lives and their pets, forming a cozy little family with two cats and a dog, in order of age, or perhaps importance: Cosmo, Ace, and the ever-adorable Luna, affectionately known as Tuna Fish.
Their nomadic spirit led them to Bend, Oregon, where they've immersed themselves once again in the local culture and cuisine, embracing favorites like Wild Rose and Lemon Tree. They're still wanderers at heart, hiking every chance they get, whether it be rivers, lakes, mountain, buttes, or fossil-filled canyons. They're exploring the Pacific Northwest's wonders, from cascading waterfalls to intimate concerts (Bon Iver last year, Hozier this year!). They've even dabbled in sailing, thanks to some impromptu lessons, and honed their pickleball skills (Michael's a 4.0+, in case you want to challenge him).
As partners, they've nurtured each other's interests, with Kendra diving headfirst into cooking (much to Michael's delight, especially when it comes to leftovers). Michael dreams of epic backpacking trips, with many considerations on the calendar for summer 2024; looking at you, Mt. Rainier or Olympic National Park! Amid wedding planning madness, they're looking forward to quieter moments this summer filled with car camping, board games, and maybe even some video games—now that Michael finally found one that Kendra enjoys!
Their thirst for adventure remains unquenchable, with dreams of an extended honeymoon in France on the horizon. Michael and Kendra's love story continues to unfold with humor, adventure, and a whole lot of good food - we hope you enjoyed this little snippet into our life together!
